NFF Admits Owing Late Amodu Shaibu Two-month Salaries

first_imgFemi SolajaThe Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), monday confirmed that late former Super Eagles coach, Amodu Shaibu, was being owed two-month salary. The revelation was a confirmation that most of the coaches that have been on the employment of the federation in the last few years are still been owed.Against a backdrop of reports that the federation was owing late Amodu and Stephen Keshi who died three days before the former BCC Lions gaffer, NFF yesterday clarified the issue to end unnecessary speculations.General Secretary of the NFF, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed on the federation’s official Twitter handle, @The NFF, that Amodu was been owed two months salaries just like every other management staff at the Glass House in Abuja. The revelation put to rest speculations in a section of the sporting press claiming that Amodu was being owed seven months wages.Sanusi said: “Every member of NFF management is being owed salaries for two months. The NFF will pay all monies due late Amodu to his family.Amodu who died early hours of Saturday in his sleep was buried same day according to Muslim rite.He is the only senior coach to take charge of the Super Eagles on five occasions starting with the 1994 handling of the Eagles after Clemens Westerhof left after the debut at the World Cup in USA. He returned for another spell leading Eagles to the King Fahd Cup (now FIFA Confederation Cup) 1995.Amodu was again in-charge in 1997, 2001 and 2002 and then replaced German Berti Vogts after AFCON 2008 in Ghana.Just like it happened in 2002 when he qualified Nigeria for the World Cup hosted jointly by Korea and Japan and was denied the chance to lead the team, fate again was cruel to the Okpella-born coach in 2010 when he was dumped for Swede Lars Lagerback after getting the ticket for Eagles outing at the first World Cup to be hosted on African soil.Meanwhile, Official sponsor of Nigerian national teams, Globacom, has expressed grief on the sudden death of Amodu. The company in a press statement in Lagos on Monday described the death of Amodu as unfortunate and sad; especially happening barely three days after the country lost another former coach, Stephen Keshi. The deaths of the two legends in such a short space of time, Globacom noted, were quite saddening, adding that the sports community and Nigeria as a whole had been robbed of two icons.Globacom stated that Amodu left indelible footprints on Nigerian football, and that his outstanding contributions to the development of the round leather game in the country would be remembered for a long time.“Globacom commiserates with his family, the Nigerian Football Federation and the entire Nigeria Football Community on the death of Amodu, and prays that Allah will grant him Aljannah Firdaus”, the statement concludedShare this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegramlast_img read more

Police to use pedal patrol Officers to target foot-traffic areas

first_imgRios and others who are now on bike patrol said they qualified for the program by taking a 40-hour course in “defensive driving” for bicyclists. The team includes six deputies and Craig, with a maximum of four typically on patrol at any one time. “Most of the people who are going to be doing the bikes are bike enthusiasts themselves,” Rios said. “They do this on their off time.” Craig said the program serves the two-fold purpose of reaching out to the community and being more effective in close quarters. “In an area that is subject to all kinds of auto burglaries and auto thefts, it lets us get around the traffic unhampered and stealthy,” Craig said. Rios said officers have made one arrest on bike patrol since they began work on Oct. 24, and they have stopped others for a variety of violations. “Of course, the people who we do stop are flabbergasted,” Rios said, adding that many motorists think the deputies are theater security or do not notice the bikes when driving. Capt. Michael Rothans presented one of the bikes at an Oct. 22 meeting, to show the council members the features of the equipment they helped to buy. “The captain played with lights and let the sirens whistle,” Mayor Ron Beilke said. Beilke said the idea for increased bike patrols came from the council, and Councilman Bob Archuleta even rode the new bicycle to get a feel for the job. Beilke said the bikes are a good alternative to patrol cars. “It’s less intrusive than having a squad car there, especially in a crowded situation like the Krikorian center,” Beilke said. Craig said the program is safe for officers on the job, and that they have backup support when needed. A squad car would be called in if a situation got dangerous, or if deputies wanted to transport someone after an arrest. Generally, however, the bicycle deputies stay independent of patrol cars, even riding the two miles from the station each day to their post at the theater. “It’s just as safe as walking,” Rios said. “If you’re a bike enthusiast, you know.” airan.scruby@sgvn.com (562) 698-0955, Ext. 3029160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. The sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station, with the help of the city, has recently purchased four new bicycles for officers to use in patrolling areas with heavy foot traffic. The new bikes will be used full time at the Village Walk Shopping Center, where the Pico Rivera Village Walk 15 Krikorian Premiere Theatre is located. “So far we’ve had all positive feedback,” said Sgt. Scott Craig, who heads the program. “The deputy is out of the car, and they’re more approachable and readily accessible.” AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREStriving toward a more perfect me: Doug McIntyre Bicycle patrol had previously been used in Pico Rivera for special events, like Fourth of July celebrations. If the new patrol in the theater complex is successful, the program may be expanded to cover other areas including city parks and other shopping areas. “We’re looking forward to this being a permanent thing,” Deputy Jose Rios said. “That would be our vision.” Each bike costs about $2,100. They were purchased in a joint effort by the city and sheriff’s station. They replaced six older bikes, bought 12 years ago for special event patrol. Craig said the new bicycles have technological advantages over the old models. Rios said the difference is instantly noticeable for the cyclist. “The old bikes … they’re in disrepair,” Rios said. “The bikes we have now are hydraulic. They have hydraulic brakes, they have shocks. They’re awesome.” last_img read more
