The event occurred around 1 p.m.Sugarloaf Communications Manager Noelle Tuttle said the girl was loading at the mid-station lift with her mother and apparently didn’t get completely on the chair before heading up the mountain.“We’re not sure exactly what happened, but the chairlift operator noticed they were struggling and was able to turn off the lift,” Tuttle said. The employee was then able to place a “catch net” beneath the girl. Tuttle said the girl reported some back pain, but was otherwise apparently uninjured. When paramedics arrived on the scene, however, they realized the girl had a pre-existing medical condition that raised concern and made the decision to call Life Flight. The girl, who lives in Maine, was reportedly wearing a helmet. An investigation into the incident by the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol is ongoing.last_img
