first_imgHome » News » Agencies & People » JK Rowling revealed as part-owner of lettings agency previous nextAgencies & PeopleJK Rowling revealed as part-owner of lettings agencyFamous for her Harry Potter books and £600 million fortune, the author has also joined the ranks of the property industry after being revealed as a ‘person with significant control’ of a property management firm.Nigel Lewis14th April 202002,400 Views The world’s most famous author JK Rowling is a shareholder in a lettings agency, it has been revealed.Known best for the Harry Potter series of books and films, the 54-year-old author is a ‘person with significant control’ in Caernarfon Lettings Ltd, which is run by her husband Dr Neil Murray and has a registered address in her adopted home city of Edinburgh.The lettings agency, which says it is involved in the ‘management of real estate on a fee or contract basis’, was incorporated in August 2011 and is used to operate the couple’s extensive property portfolio in Edinburgh Perthshire and London.Rowling’s involvement in the company came to light when it was revealed over the weekend that the firm had bought a Grade II listed cottage where the millionaire author spent her childhood from the ages of nine to eighteen.GraffitiThe Tutshill, Chepstow property, which still features graffiti left by the young Rowling in 1982, was last sold by local agency Properts for £400,000, and is to be remodelled.Caernarfon Lettings has been given planning permission by Forest of Dean District Council to enlarge the former rectory and school house, upgrade its garage, change the windows and replace the roof.The planning report says the Rowlings intend to keep original features like cast iron fireplaces, lime plaster, wooden floorboards and cottage style doors and take out modern additions such as plasterboard, vinyl floors and bathroom tiles.It is believed that the quirky cottage helped inspire much of Rowling’s creativity when planning the Potter books and the world of Quidditch – she named one of the Quidditch teams in the novel Tutshill.Read more about Harry Potter and property.JK Rowling Harry Potter Properts Chepstow April 14, 2020Nigel LewisWhat’s your opinion?
