Big Wii U news Nintendo announces new Zelda Fire EmblemShin Megami cr

first_imgIn today’s Nintendo Direct, the company made some big announcements, outlining prominent future Wii U releases, as well as attempting to reassure us that the Wii U will evolve, announcing some planned big features on the horizon.Perhaps one of the few reasons certain gamers might have continued purchasing Nintendo consoles over the years, a new Zelda for  the Wii U is in development, though the release date has been rumored to be far away. There aren’t any details at the moment, but Nintendo said they would be incoming. I think it’s a safe bet to say that the game will feature locating some amount of MacGuffins protected by large bosses that adhere to some sort of repeating pattern. Along with the Wii U Zelda, Nintendo also announced that their new console would be getting a Wind Waker HD remake, which will most likely look absolutely gorgeous, considering the SD version was pretty breathtaking to begin with.At this year’s E3, Nintendo is planning to have playable builds of a new 3D action Mario title and a new Mario Kart. The Kirby’s Epic Yarn team will be setting its sights on Yoshi, transforming the little guy into a yarn-based dinosaur. A new Wii Party will be releasing this summer, and the Xenoblade team is working on a new game for the Wii U. Nintendo also noted that details for Bayonetta 2 and the next installment of the Super Smash Bros. franchise are eventually on the way.Perhaps the only piece of surprising news is that Nintendo is working with Atlus and Intelligent Systems to bring a Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei crossover to the Wii U. Reports around the internet suggest that the art style seems to be more in line with the Shin Megami series rather than the Fire Emblem series, so that might mean that the game will be based in the Shin Megami universe. However, based on the teaser (below), even as an avid Fire Emblem fan I don’t notice a difference in the FE character visuals.Iwata also noted that Nintendo is working on other crossovers, but didn’t reveal any further details.Nintendo will be adding the Virtual Console to the Wii U in a spring update, and it will initially include NES and SNES games, with GBA games coming somewhere down the line. The games will be priced as they were on the Wii. If you bought a Virtual Console game on the Wii and transfered it to the Wii U, you can repurchase the “enhanced” Wii U version for $1 per NES game, and $1.50 per SNES game. Also coming this spring, Nintendo will make the Miiverse available to view through a browser on smartphones, with plans to make an app in the future. So, in summary, Nintendo will be releasing a new Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Yoshi game, Super Smash Bros., and a mini-game collection sometime in the future. Didn’t see that coming! The Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei mashup is certainly intriguing, though, and this FE fan will be keeping a cautious, watchful eye.last_img read more
