In October, 53,000 of the jobs added were in companies with between one and 19 employees and 49,000 were added in companies with between 20 and 49 employees, according to ADP.”Employment continues to trend upward as we begin the last quarter of 2014, driven mostly by small to mid-sized companies,” said Carlos Rodriguez, President and CEO of ADP Research Institute. “October’s job growth is the highest since June and the second highest gain of 2014.”Large businesses with more than 500 employees gained only 5,000 new jobs month-over-month in October after adding 85,000 in September, according to ADP. Businesses with between 500 and 999 employees added 14,000 jobs from September to October, an increase from 8,000 added from August to September, but this gain was offset by the loss of 8,000 jobs in businesses with more than 1,000 employees, ADP reported. The goods-producing sector accounted for 48,000 of the jobs added in October, a slight decline from the 50,000 jobs that sector added in September, according to ADP. The construction industry added the most jobs in this category in October with 28,000, more than twice the number of jobs added in that industry for Sepember (13,000). Manufacturing, however, added only 15,000 jobs after increasing by a three-year high total of 33,000 in September.Meanwhile, 181,000 service-producing jobs were added in October, an increase over the 176,000 jobs that sector added in September. The professional and business service industries contributed the most job additions in that category with 53,000 in October, while the trade/transportation/utilities industries expanded by 47,000 jobs in October, up from 37,000 in September. The financial activities industry gained 4,000 jobs in October, which was less than half of September’s total.”The job market is steadily picking up pace,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics. “Job growth is strong and broad-based across industries and company sizes. At this pace of job growth unemployment and underemployment is quickly declining. The job market will soon be tight enough to support a meaningful acceleration in wage growth.” The Week Ahead: Nearing the Forbearance Exit 2 days ago Subscribelast_img read more

EPL: Dele Alli, Son fire Spurs to first 2020 league win

first_imgRelatedPosts EPL: Son fires four past Southampton Trio of signings make instant impact as Everton stun Spurs EPL: Spurs, Everton light up London Heung-Min Son’s late header helped below-par Tottenham pick up their first league victory of 2020 with a 2-1 defeat of Norwich – but Jose Mourinho will know there is plenty of work to do if his side are to further close the six-point gap on the top four. Dele Alli tucked in Tottenham’s first Premier League goal of the year from Serge Aurier’s low cross on 38 minutes after both sides had spurned good chances in the early exchanges but the hosts failed to kick-on. Teemu Pukki made bottom-of-the-league Norwich’s second-half dominance count, squeezing his penalty past Hugo Lloris – who had made a surprise return from injury to start – but Son’s header from Alli’s deflected shot ended the visitors’ hopes of a turnaround. The result moves Spurs to within two wins of fourth-placed Chelsea, while Norwich have a six-point gap of their own to overcome if they are to escape relegation. Tottenham had failed to find the net in their past three Premier League games but were immediately on the front foot, with Erik Lamela following up an early free-kick attempt by drawing a sharp save from Tim Krul with a volley on 10 minutes. However, Norwich showed their own attacking intent on the quarter-hour mark, when Todd Cantwell capped an impressive spell of possession with a neat pass through to Pukki from the edge of the area but the Finn was surprisingly wasteful, snatching his shot wide.Tags: Dele AlliHeung-Min SonNorwichTottenham Hotspurlast_img read more

Howley: Best to come from North

first_imgRob Howley has declared that the British and Irish Lions have yet to see the best of George North after the Wales wing was passed fit for Saturday’s first Test against Australia. Howley added: “He’s probably one of the best athletes I’ve been involved with as a coach. He can change direction very quickly, has a great step, power and speed. “You can bring him in the 10 or 13 channel, or keep him out wide for the passing game. His work rate off the wing is phenomenal. “We want our wings to be involved because you want your best players on the ball as often as possible. He works tirelessly hard at his game and it’s good for the Lions to have someone like him available.” North’s presence has taken on greater importance with centre Jamie Roberts and wing Tommy Bowe almost certain to miss the series opener because of their respective hamstring and hand problems. The shock and awe game plan of head coach Warren Gatland is heavily reliant on the power running of North, Roberts and Bowe, with Jonathan Sexton and Brian O’Driscoll providing the subtlety. Losing all three wrecking balls would have been a significant setback that Howley admitted could possibly have forced the Lions to rethink their game plan. Further firepower could be provided by Manu Tuilagi after Howley revealed he has an outside chance of facing the Wallabies this weekend, potentially forcing Gatland to choose between him and Jonathan Davies to partner O’Driscoll in the centres. Press Associationcenter_img Just hours after being deflated by their 14-12 defeat to the Brumbies in their first loss Down Under, the tourists were told that North has made a complete recovery from his hamstring injury. The Lions team for Saturday’s first Test will be announced on Thursday. The 21-year-old had been in magnificent form prior to limping off against the Combined Country XV and Lions assistant coach Howley said: “It’s great to have someone like George available because of his physicality, power and speed. I believe we’ve only seen glimpses of him, he’s a phenomenal athlete and hopefully he’ll have that opportunity to show it over the next few weeks.” last_img read more
